About Us
The Highlander Institute is an academic centre founded with the mission to inculcate scientific temper in the minds of the population. It aims to foster a healthy debate and discussion from where all new ideas came. Besides, the Institute objective is to make higher education accessible to everyone, especially rural and tribal students. Keeping this in mind the institute introduced various online courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels since January 2026 session. This is done in partnership with Mangalayatan University, Aligarh (UP), an A+ graded institution by NAAC.
The institute also regularly conducts workshops, seminars and other such academic events in partnership with various likeminded organisations from time to time. It also guides students in their research and documentation activities which are part and parcel of the academic programmes. Special orientation programmes are also organized for teachers and interested groups to impart them the skills and knowledge required with the fast changing teaching and learning environment.
Besides the regular academic programmes, the Institute also serves as a training centre on various skill-based education. This includes short term entrepreneurship courses on Information Technology, Poultry Farming, Plumbing , Carpentry, Embroidery and other such courses that aligned it with the institute’s objectives.
The Highlander Institute is an academic body incorporated under a trust registered under Indian Trust Act, 1882. Presently, the Institute is based at Sapormeina in Kangpokpi District on the Asian Highway-2 which is about 40 kilometers to the north of Imphal.
