Raja Chengjapao Memorial Lecture
The Raja Chengjapao Memorial Lecture is an annual distinguished lecture series instituted to honour the memory and legacy of Raja Chengjapao Doungel, the Kuki King who courageously led his people in resisting British colonial rule during the Anglo-Kuki War (1917–1919). His leadership, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the freedom and dignity of his people continue to inspire generations across Northeast India. The lecture series seeks to commemorate his historic contribution while encouraging critical reflection on the region’s past, present, and future.
Organised under The Highlander Institute, the Memorial Lecture serves as a vibrant platform for academic engagement and public discourse. Eminent scholars, policymakers, diplomats, historians, public intellectuals, and distinguished practitioners from India and abroad will be invited to deliver lectures on issues of contemporary relevance. Topics will include the history, politics, governance, culture, identity, diplomacy, peace and conflict, border affairs, development, and strategic challenges that shape Northeast India. The series aims to foster informed dialogue and promote evidence-based understanding of the region’s complexities.
